Going to the Thompson Hotel feels a bit like going to Vegas. Located in Hollywood, the hotel is far from Nevada, but the posh interior fills me with the same optimism that I’d find in a casino. Similarly, at the Thompson, there’s an air of fortune in the dimly lit lobby, like happiness can be found in a drink at the bar. It’s the beginning of Social Hour. From 5 to 6 pm, wine and cheese are both free and flowing. There’s no better time to meet a stranger or deepen an acquaintance.
